Southern A&E provided full architectural and engineering design services for the new North Mt. Carmel Recreation Center, a nearly 40,000-square-foot, two-story facility created to support Henry County residents through recreation, wellness, and connection.
A bright, welcoming lobby and reception area—complete with a coffee café—invites visitors to gather and connect. Nearby, two 7,500-square-foot gymnasiums host basketball, volleyball, and other indoor sports. Large windows in both the gymnasiums and lobby flood the building with natural light, creating an open, energetic atmosphere. The lower level also features a room for e-sports, multi-purpose rooms, a meeting room, and a large community room to accommodate programs ranging from fitness classes to workshops and community meetings. Staff offices and workspaces ensure smooth daily operations, while men’s and women’s locker rooms offer convenience for users.
On the second floor, a 3,000-square-foot fitness and weightlifting room provides space for individual workouts and group training. A generous mezzanine overlooks the gymnasiums, connecting the activity below with the upper floor and adding to the building’s open feel.
