Progress continues on the new Rome Middle School campus for @romecityschools! Designed by Southern A&E and built by @parrishconstruction, the new facility will total approximately 310,000 square feet, including dedicated athletic support facilities. The school is being constructed on a 43-acre site and is designed to support the district’s growing student population with modern, flexible learning environments. The project remains on schedule, with completion planned in time to welcome students for the 2026–2027 school year.
Last week, we proudly celebrated Chase for 5 years and Glen for 25 years of dedicated service to Southern A&E. Thank you both for your commitment, hard work, and the impact you’ve made over the years!
Over the past few weeks, Southern A&E’s own Jose has been fundraising for @soccerstreets, a nonprofit that creates access to soccer and life skills programs for Atlanta youth—transforming unused spaces into fields and building a more connected city through the power of play. With support from Southern A&E colleagues, friends, and family, Jose raised $2.2K for the cause. His team, the Rangers, brought in an incredible $12.2K, contributing to a total of $73.6K raised across the event! Southern A&E was proud to attend yesterday afternoon’s ribbon cutting for the North Mt. Carmel Recreation Center in Henry County, GA—a nearly 40,000 SF facility built to support the community with spaces for sports, weightlifting, e-sports, computer access, flexible workspaces, and more. Designing for the future of Jackson County students Southern A&E is proud to be partnering with @jacksoncountyschoolsystem to design a brand-new PreK-12 campus that brings together Hoschton High School, Sell’s Mill Middle School, and Hayes Elementary School on one connected site — creating a cohesive environment for learning, growth, and community. The new elementary, middle, and high schools are being thoughtfully planned to support students from their first day of school to graduation day. Inside the high school, students will have access to state-of-the-art classrooms and science labs. The performing arts center — complete with a large auditorium, black box theater, and dedicated band, chorus, and dance rooms — will inspire creativity and self-expression. The gymnasiums and weight room offer space to stay active and build teamwork. Beyond the classroom, the campus is designed with student-athletes and performers in mind. Athletic facilities will support football, baseball, softball, tennis, track, and more — with dedicated practice fields, grandstands, concessions, and fieldhouses to elevate both practice and game-day experiences. Southern A&E is providing full-service design, including architecture, interior design, and all engineering disciplines, for this transformational project. We are honored to collaborate with @carrolldanielconstruction, the construction partner bringing this vision to life. Together, we are shaping the next chapter of education in Jackson County, creating a campus that will serve as a cornerstone for the community for generations to come.​
Alexander High School’s Competition Gymnasium is a statement of Cougar pride! 🎉 Designed by Southern A&E and completed in 2016, this 55,675 SF facility was built to support the school’s growth and athletic success. Featuring seating for 2,044 spectators, a walking/running track, and a spacious weight room overlooking the athletic fields, the gym is a top-tier space for student-athletes. The multipurpose wrestling room, modern locker rooms, and expansive lobby with full concessions make it a hub for both competition and community.

After 28 years with the firm, starting as a mechanical designer and growing into key leadership roles, Mike is stepping into this position to guide us into the future. We also want to thank Steve McCune for his years of leadership and dedication as CEO. While he is beginning his retirement, he will continue to be part of SAE as CEO Emeritus.
