Following the devastation from an EF-4 tornado in March 2021, Southern A&E was entrusted with designing the replacement of Newnan High School. The storm irreparably damaged nine of the campus’s thirteen buildings, requiring a full reimagining of the site. Working on an accelerated schedule, we developed phased solutions that prioritized getting students back in salvaged campus buildings by the start of the 2022–23 school year.
The program included demolition, a new gymnasium, and a 284,516-squarefoot main school building finished in July 2024. Salvaged brick and limestone from the original building were incorporated into the design to preserve the school’s history. Throughout construction, students were housed in mobile classrooms, other district facilities, and the surviving campus structures, requiring careful coordination to maintain safety and continuity of learning.
